Introducing our Newest Staff MemberLiv Vermane - Pastoral Intern My full name is Olivia, but my friends call me Liv! I’m a Master of Divinity student at Duke Divinity, and your newest Pastoral Intern at Trinity UMC! Prior to starting at Duke, I attended George Mason University where I graduated with a degree in Communications and Religious Studies. When I’m not busy doing ministry work or studying, you can usually find me drinking coffee, stuffing my face with Italian food, or watching New Girl. I live to serve the world by helping others, and oftentimes I find that I can do this best through my work in ministry! I’m a lot of things. I’m a dreamer, an artist, and I’m a future UMC pastor. I’m always down for an adventure, and I am absolutely psyched to meet you! Grace + Peace, Liv Vermane |

Preservation North Carolina - Conference Keynote Session at TUMCThursday, October 5 at 1:00 pm Older and Historic Buildings: The Solution to the Affordable Housing Crisis, Not the Cause: There is no question that there is an affordable housing crisis in America. The most common proposed solution is “Let’s build our way out of it.” Unfortunately, that is a fool’s errand. You cannot build new and rent or sell cheap – it can’t be done unless there are very deep subsidies, or you build shoddy, short-lived houses. The affordable housing that is provided by the marketplace is overwhelmingly older housing stock. The number one priority for affordable housing advocates should be keeping what we have already. Donovan Rypkema, principal of PlaceEconomics, a Washington, D.C.-based real estate and economic development-consulting firm with a career of experience analyzing the economic impacts of historic preservation, will address the ways that older housing is meeting affordability needs, and also the attitudes of preservation professionals towards affordable housing. This session will be free and open to the public, regardless of conference registration. Keynote Speaker: Donovan Rypkema |

Successful Fundraiser!Thank You to all! I want to thank all the folks who helped our BBQ benefit for Mark Scruggs and his daughter, Melisha to be a success this past Sunday. We sold 67 lbs. of BBQ out of 72 total on hand. Because many folks were generous and donated more than the actual price, we raised $852.50 altogether. We actually gave three lbs. away when I knew funds were limited or non-existent; how can you say "no" in that situation? Many thanks also to Carol Bond, Carl Ross and Eve Stetzenmuller for their time and patience helping to pull all that pork.
Congratulations to Mark and Melisha, who is recovering nicely from her surgery. Blessings to all of you!

Pancakes for the People's Successful Return
July’s event was a wonderful opportunity for teamwork and re-connection with friends. The next 5th Sunday is October 28th. We would love to do it again to reestablish the long held Trinity tradition. In order to make it happen, we need 2 lay people to take the lead. No need to reinvent the wheel, we already have the system set up and ready to go, we just need someone to take the lead on coordinating. If you are willing to serve in this capacity or have questions, please call Rev. Carolyn at (919) 530-9477 (new number) or email Carolyn@trinitydurham.org |
