Subject: LAST CALL to Join Next Week’s (July 17th) Book Study for Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart”).
One last reminder and sincere encouragement for you to join us on July 17, 2024, at 6 PM at the parsonage as we discuss Chinua Achebe’s “Things Fall Apart.” Told through the fictional experiences of Okonkwo, a wealthy and fearless Igbo warrior of Umuofia in the late 1800s, Things Fall Apart explores one man's futile resistance to the devaluing of his Igbo traditions by British political and religious forces and his despair as his community capitulates to the powerful new order. With over 20 million copies sold and translated into fifty-seven languages, Things Fall Apart provides one of the most illuminating and permanent monuments to the African experience with Christianity. Achebe not only captures life in a pre-colonial African village but also conveys the tragedy of the loss of that world while broadening our understanding of our contemporary realities. Don’t worry if you haven't had time to read or even receive the book yet. Join us on July 17, 2024, at 6 PM at the parsonage. You’ll enjoy the experience either way! |
Freedom School Dinner UPDATE from last week!
Our work to serve and support the families and children from the Freedom School summer camp draws to a close, I wanted to thank you all for your prayers, donations, and volunteerism. Last week’s chicken finger dinner was great, and I bet this week’s spaghetti dinner will be even better! Looking toward next week, which is our last dinner of the summer, the kids and their families will be introduced to Taco Tuesday, Trinity-style! After this week, and because of you all, just one more to go! |
