2nd Week of the Lenten StudyFebruary 26th @ 6:30 pm Jesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward. Jesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes, or anointed him with costly perfume. We take risks as we read and re-read these stories, finding new meanings and new challenges. In Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience. Join Pastor Tobi at the parsonage on Mondays at 6:30pm as we reflect on the last week of Jesus’ life and journey together through Lent. Order the book or kindle here: https://a.co/d/9ld9BlF It is not too late to join! Register for the class by contacting LaNella at Office@TrinityDurham.org or you may call the church office at 919-683-1386. For more infomation visit:

Offering Pews to the Congregation
When the Sanctuary was remodeleda few years ago, about 20 pews were removed from the Sanctuary. They have been in storage in the Fellowship Hall. The Trustees are now offering these pews to the Congregation as a right of first refusal. The Trustees have contacted Y & J Furniture here in Durham and they will work with us to make furniture from the pews. There are several ideas for what furniture pieces can be made from these pews: bookcases, hall racks, lecturns, side tables, coffee tables, benches, and kitchen corner booths.
The Trustees need to know who in the Congregation is interested in having a piece of furniture made from the pews. If you are interested or have any questions, please email Annette Baker at drbakernc@gmail.com by Sunday, March 10th, at 5pm. You are not obligated to get a piece of furniture simply by showing interest.
These pews are part of our Trinity heritage. This is a chance to have a piece of our church in our homes. Re-purposing the pews is a great way of using the pews.

Prayer for Appointment-Making Season: Disruption for the Clergy's Children
As we are in appointment-making season, Bishop Shelton has encouraged all of us to pray for the Cabinet, clergy and their families, and congregations. We will be sharing prayers over the next few weeks and encourage you to share them with your church. Read the first prayer in the series written by Rev. Laura Wyant Wittman. ABOUT APPOINTMENTS In The United Methodist Church, clergy appointments are made annually by the bishop. This unique system of deploying clergy dates back to John Wesley. United Methodist pastors are itinerant - sent, not called or hired. "Itinerancy" refers specifically to the commitment by pastors to go and serve wherever their bishops send them. When bishops consider appointments, they consult with others who know the congregation and community, including the district superintendent, the pastor, and the pastor-parish relations committee of the local church. The needs and desires of the pastor and the congregation are considered, but the mission of the church comes first. Rev. Belton Joyner explains, "In a connectional system such as United Methodism, the question from any individual congregation or from any individual [clergy] is not, 'What is best for me?' The question is 'What is best for us, the whole connection?' The one who has oversight, the bishop, makes those decisions. (The New Testament word for bishop is episkopos, which means 'the one who can see the whole picture.')" (Source:umc.org) For more infomation visit:

CROP Walk
Hello everyone. Its time for CROP WALK 2024. The actual date of the walk is March 24th (Palm Sunday). Just like last year we are having a friendly competition. We are going to stir those feelings of School Pride. If you remember last year each of you chose one of 4 School teams to represent. And as you may remember Duke came out on top last year with the most donations. Well, it is time for UNC, State and Central to turn the tables!! The crop walk collection folders are in the Narthex-along with other information you may find interesting. Please stop by and grab one. Ask Everyone you know to donate to this incredible cause and turn in your collections to Angela. Make sure to include which team you are representing!! Last year we raised $1400 and some change. This year’s goal is $2000. If you would like to walk, please sign up in the Narthex and let me know your shirt size so I can place the orders. Also look out for our bake sales on March 3rd and 10th. The Trintiy Warrior Women have graciously agreed to bake sweet treats to benefit the crop walk. All proceeds will be evenly distributed among the teams. Lastly if you have another college team you would like to represent let me know and I will add them to the mix. No such thing as too much competition!! Questions? Wingmates the LORDSchool Supplies Mission Project ~ Sundays, February 11-March 3, 2024 Worship shapes us. Since the service on February 4, Isaiah 40, Lord of the Dance, and On Eagles’ Wings have hummed in harmony and led to musings in our hearts. As Christians, we aspire to be “the hands and feet of the Lord,” humbly ministering to others in the name of Jesus, but do we consistently appreciate the excitement of our service? Perhaps we should also see ourselves as “wingmates for Jesus.” Creator God alone holds the plan for each life held “in the palm of His hand.” yet while the Lord “lifts us up on eagle’s wings,” we receive breathtaking opportunities to encourage and support His mission. Were we able to peak over God’s wing shoulder as He teaches others to soar, the view would stagger our imaginations and be too marvelous for us to comprehend…. Thank you, Trinity, for the excitement you always show for the ministries to Eastway Elementary School. Trinity’s Congregations for Children is delighted to announce our next mission project for Eastway Elementary School: School Supplies Mission Project, Sundays, February 11-March 3, 2024. By February, school supplies are depleted, and teachers must buy new supplies with their own funds or do without. Our mission pews are ready for your items to be placed on them. If you prefer, you may mail a check to Trinity UMC with C4C on the memo line, and committee members will shop for you. The needed supplies are listed below. As much as possible, please bring name-brand items since they tend to last longer. Clorox Wipes or similar cleaning supplies Colored Paper Colored pencils/markers Composition books (black and white marbled cover) Crayons Elmer’s Glue Sticks Expo Dry Erase Markers Index cards (any size) Sharpies Tape Every gift is precious in God’s sight, and no gift is too small. The composition book you donate may land in the hands of the next Martin Luther King. The Expo Dry Erase markers may fuel the genius of the next Michelangelo. The check you write may help the next Misty Copeland to dance with joy wherever she may be… Wingmate ministry is thrilling isn’t it? |
